Have you ever seen a living room without a couch? Me neither. Couches are one of the few large items that are necessary for your home. Whether you have a small space or one large enough for entertaining, you are going to need a couch (or maybe two!) for your living room. The great thing about purchasing a couch is that it has a highly functional purpose that also adds value to the look of the room.

Before you begin shopping for larger items, you need to have a sense for the overall vibe and style you're aiming for. Bigger items like couches, dressers and entertainment centers really set the tone for the foundation of style, plus they're not something you will replace regularly. From there you will add accent pieces in your chosen style as well as two or three other supporting styles. This will allow you to express yourself in many ways and make it so you're not married to just one design style.

I've gathered a few couches that I am loving right now in a few different styles to get you started. Some couches can blend from style to style depending on what you surround it with but each one leans toward a particular style.

Farmhouse

Farmhouse decor is all about using traditional and neutral elements to create a cozy, rustic atmosphere. This couch is subtle but will give you a great foundation for adding all the farmhouse decorations around it. Adding some patterned and textured pillows will take this couch to the next level!

Modern Farmhouse

Going for the modern farmhouse look is a little different than the traditional sense of farmhouse. One way to achieve this look is to opt for curved leather furniture. This will give you the traditional yet modern feel you're going for.

MidMod

Mid-century modern is all about clean lines to create a sophisticated look.

French Country

French country pulls from more of a traditional high class look. The curves, tufts and neutral color ooze elegance.

Boho

Boho can manifest itself in many different forms. This is one reason I love it so much. Picking a couch in deep natural tones will allow for your nature inspired decor to shine.

Eclectic

Eclectic style is all about all about mixing a lot of styles, textures and colors. I enjoy this couch because it is BOLD but has a traditional form. It will be a great foundation for the rest of your pieces!

Industrial

Brown leather mixes perfectly with metals. Both are a staple of the industrial style.
