Fun Budget Halloween Decorations

Updated: Aug 23, 2019

My roommate, Hannah, and I recently had a fall/Halloween get together. Being young and fresh out of college we were on a strict budget for decorations. This was a great reminder that you can throw a Pinterest-worthy party while not breaking the bank. Keep in mind to use what you have around!

We started with tea candles and craft paint. Hannah came up with the idea of getting basic white gift bags from the craft store to use them as lanterns around the yard! This is a fun idea to get friends and the kids involved and go crazy with paint!

What you need:

Step One

Carefully remove the handle from the bags. You can do this by simply peeling the strip off. If you are not careful, you might rip the bag. If that happens, no worries, some monsters have rough around the edges!

Step Two

Next, paint anything your imagination comes up with! You can make these as scary or as fun as you want. We mostly stuck to cute depictions of our favorite monsters and just some silly faces as well. You can even get creative and cut the bag at the top to make hair or the top of a ghost round!

Here are some ideas to get you started:

Ghosts

Mummy

Glowing eyes

Pumpkin

Sea Monster

Skeleton

Step Three

To ensure you are keeping up with fire safety, fill the bag with dirt or put the candle in a glass votive instead. You could even opt for flame less candles. (I am just not sure how much they will light up the bag.) Light the candles carefully and place them inside!

Step Four

Enjoy your work and get the party started!

We decided to keep them Halloween themed, but this could be useful in any season as well as for indoor and outdoor parties. Have fun with this and share your results with me!
