How living like Winnie the Pooh will change your life

Last year, I made the leap to pack up my car and drive 12 hours away from my hometown to Boston, MA. As I drove towards the East coast and zoomed away from my mom and everything else that makes me feel safe and cozy, I was filled with a lot of emotions.

After a while, I decided to look at the positive side of this situation. Often, if we take a new perspective, something we thought was so terrible actually could be a wonderful thing. After crying in the car about leaving everything behind, I had a huge mindset shift...

I am so happy and lucky to have people in my life that make it difficult to say goodbye. It reminds me that I have created many meaningful and powerful relationships and just exactly how much they mean to me. Although this is still a hard situation, imagine how you would feel if you had no one that you are connected to in this way?

Hollywood portrays courage through those who slay dragons and the heroes as the ones who save the world. But life is not that way, and courage can be found in the smallest actions. Become your own hero for taking on new adventures in life, saying goodbye even when its hard and knowing when to take the next step in your life.

Of course, this is in line with a famous Winnie the Pooh quote:

“How lucky am I to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard.”

Here are some more classic Pooh quotes to keep in the back of your mind as a gentle reminder to not take life so seriously and to remember what's most important in life.

1. “Nobody can be uncheered with a balloon.”

Okay - balloons actually make me really happy.. but the take away from this is to indulge in the small things that make you happy. Enjoy flowers? Buy them once a week for yourself! Does a latte make you so so sooo happy? Treat yourself every once in a while! Forget the $5 dollars, forget the calories, be happy.

2. “It isn’t much good having anything exciting, if you can’t share it with somebody.”

3. “Love is taking a few steps backward maybe even more to give way to the happiness of the person you love.”

4. “I always get to where I’m going by walking away from where I have been.”

Sometimes in life, we just need a change of perspective. Let go of things that are not working and walk into the unknown. Things will start to click when you just let go.

5. “Oh, bother.”

Pooh never let the small stuff get to him, and neither should you. Acknowledge, learn, move one.

6. “Don’t underestimate the value of Doing Nothing, of just going along, listening to all the things you can’t hear, and not bothering.”

Take some time to just 'be'.

7. “Any day spent with you is my favorite day. So, today is my new favorite day.”

Be happy right where you are and for being around your loved ones - even if everything isn't perfect.

8. “Rivers know this: There is no hurry. We shall get there someday.”

No matter where you are or where you want to go - things take time. Stop comparing yourself to others, they are living a different life, a different timeline. Give yourself time to get where you are going.

9. “You can’t stay in your corner of the Forest waiting for others to come to you. You have to go to them sometimes.”

And finally.. go live life, don't wait for it to arrive at your door. You will be waiting a long time.

Small mindset shifts like these can really change your entire life. Focusing on what makes you happy and the positive things in life will bring more positivity and happiness. If we all continue to focus on the negative it will only invite more negative things through our doors. So I challenge you to try and live like Pooh for a week! Make sure to stop back and let me know how it went!
